The Green Schools Committee is made up of representatives from 5th and 6th class pupils in our school. In June 2023 the committee was successful in earning our latest Green Flag 'Global Citizenship: Marine Environment'. The pupils have worked hard throughout the past two years spreading awareness about the marine environment. The committee holds meetings every month and discuss ways to make our school green. We also held the Green School poster and slogan competition in last year and the winning posters and slogan were displayed around the school.
Elections are currently being held to select our 5th Class representatives for our 2023-2024 Green Schools Committee. We will be working towards our next flag 'Global Citizenship: Transport' for the next two years. Keep an eye on this page for further updates throughout the year.
In 2022-2023, the Green School Committee made a school newsletter, talking about ways to help the environment. We then created projects about 'Global Citizenship: Marine Environment' and presented these to the other classes. We taught all the students in our school about the marine environment and how important it is to keep it safe, clean and stop polluting it. We continued doing lots of litter picking around the school and near the Weir and even joined with Tidy Towns to litter pick in Lucan Village! In Term 2 we received trees as part of the Orchards in the Community programme and we planed these around the school. We are currently collecting bottle caps to create a Green Schools mural to display in our school.
