Seachtain na Gaeilge and Lá Glas Celebrations at Scoil Mhuire GNS
Our Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations were in full swing this March at Scoil Mhuire Girls’ National School, and what a fantastic week it was! From cultural activities to a sea of green on Lá Glas, our pupils embraced the Irish language and heritage with excitement and pride.
One of the highlights of the week was the paired reading sessions between our 1st and 2nd Class pupils and their 6th Class peers. The younger students loved choosing their favourite books, while the older pupils guided them through reading ‘as Gaeilge.’ It was heartwarming to see the joy and collaboration across the classes. "Bhí gliondar croí ar na páistí" as they shared stories and smiles, making it a memorable experience for all.
The week also saw the much-anticipated Tráth na gCeist (Quiz), where students from 1st to 6th Class showcased their knowledge across a range of topics, including general knowledge, sports, and music. The atmosphere in Halla Mór was electric, with every class bringing their A-game! Congratulations to the winning teams:
- Rang a trí agus rang a ceathair: Aaima Shehzad, Zoe Rehill, Lauren Ryan, Sarah Daly, Liza Smirnova, and Sibéal Boasiakoh.
- Rang a cúig agus rang a sé: Julia Lungu, Samera Mollah, Sophie Mannion, Jessica McGuire, and Ava Sophia Mooney.
To wrap up our Seachtain na Gaeilge festivities, the whole school came together on Lá Glas (Green Day) to celebrate our Irish identity. Pupils and staff proudly donned their green attire, filling the school with vibrant shades of emerald, shamrocks, and smiles. From Irish dancing to traditional songs and storytelling, Lá Glas was a colourful and joyful celebration of Irish culture.
Seo ár Seachtain na Gaeilge agus Lá Glas i Scoil Mhuire GNS! Bhí an t-atmosféar i gceart i rith an seachtain, le himeachtaí speisialta. Bhí na laethanta lán le spraoi agus gach duine ábalta ár gcultúr agus ár dteanga a cheiliúradh le chéile.
