Scoil Mhuire Girls’ N.S. Says ‘Yes’ to Languages!
This year, over 170 pupils from our 5th and 6th classes have been enthusiastically taking part in the Say Yes to Languages sampler module, which began in December and will continue until the February mid-term break. Our school is joining more than 85,000 primary pupils across the country in this exciting language-learning experience!
At Scoil Mhuire, our pupils are learning French, with lessons delivered by Ms. Byrne and Ms. Hipwell, both of whom have degrees in French and years of experience in language education. Over the ten-week programme, the girls are enjoying fun and interactive lessons designed to spark a love for languages that we hope will last a lifetime.
Say Yes to Languages introduces pupils to Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) and Irish Sign Language (ISL), raising awareness of the many languages spoken in schools and communities. Last year, over 1,200 schools participated, with languages such as Arabic, Japanese, Polish, and Ukrainian being taught nationwide. This initiative supports the government’s plans to include foreign languages in the redeveloped Primary Curriculum Framework.
As part of the module, our pupils have been given special resources from Languages Connect, including Language Passports and fun fold-outs to share with family and friends, helping to support their learning and celebrate their progress.
We’re delighted to continue this wonderful programme and look forward to seeing our students saying "Oui" to French right through to the mid-term break!
