📚 Ready Steady Read Festival Kicks Off with a Buzz at Scoil Mhuire Girls’ N.S.! 📚
This week marks the start of our much-anticipated Ready Steady Read Festival 2025 at Scoil Mhuire Girls' National School, and it’s already off to a fantastic start! The festival, now in its third year, is designed to spark a love of reading in all our pupils, helping them discover the books that inspire them to read for pleasure.
The week kicked off with the return of our popular Scoil Mhuire Book Swap, an eco-friendly way for students to explore new titles while swapping some of their favourite books from home. The idea is simple but powerful: give a book, take a book. All pupils from Junior Infants to Sixth Class were invited to donate good-quality children’s books and, in return, receive a ticket allowing them to choose a new book to take home. It’s been a great way for students to share their love of reading, and the Book Swap Shop has been a hive of activity since it opened in the Old Hall on Monday.
Books left over after the swap will be added to our classroom libraries, ensuring they continue to bring joy to readers throughout the school. Thank you to all the families who sent in book donations – your support has made this event a huge success once again!
But the excitement doesn’t stop there! As part of the Ready Steady Read Festival, pupils are enjoying a variety of fun and inspiring events, including author visits and creative workshops. Here's a quick rundown of what’s been happening so far:
Monday, 24th February
We officially launched the Ready Steady Read Festival alongside our Readalong Fundraiser, which will run until 28th March. All classes are participating, and we can't wait to see how much our students will read and raise during this special time.
Wednesday, 25th February
The festival came to life with an engaging performance by High Rock Productions (As Gaeilge) for pupils in 1st to 4th Class. This fun-filled event had our students captivated and further fuelled their enthusiasm for the magic of storytelling.
Thursday, 27th February
We were thrilled to welcome the beloved children’s author and illustrator Mary Murphy for a day of creative workshops. Senior Infants, 1st Class, and 3rd Class had the opportunity to engage with Mary, learning about the process of writing and illustrating books, and even trying their hand at creating their own stories.
Friday, 28th February
Award-winning author and former BBC journalist Debbie Thomas will visit our 5th Class pupils for an exciting writers’ workshop. With three sessions throughout the morning, Debbie will share her expertise and passion for storytelling, inspiring our young writers to craft their own tales.
With such a wonderful mix of events and activities, it’s no wonder the Ready Steady Read Festival has been a huge success already. We’re so excited to see what the rest of the festival brings as we continue to encourage every pupil to explore the magical world of books.
A big thank you again to all the parents, teachers, and pupils for your enthusiasm and support – let’s keep up the great work and make this year’s Ready Steady Read Festival the best yet! 🌟📖
