Introducing the ‘READY STEADY READ’ Festival

The staff and pupils of Scoil Mhuire Girl’s N.S. are excited to announce the launch of the ‘Ready Steady Read’ Festival – a six-week event created to support our pupils’ reading development, to introduce them to a broad range of book titles and genres and to help them to discover the books that will allow them to read for pleasure.

Our Festival will commence immediately after the mid-term break on Monday 20th February with the launch of the Readalong fundraiser and the Scoil Mhuire Book Fair.

READALONG

The Ready Steady Read Festival will run in tandem with our annual fundraiser the ‘Scoil Mhuire Girls’ N.S. Readalong, during which pupils will seek sponsorship from family and friends for reading as many books as they can for the duration of our reading festival.

SCOIL MHUIRE BOOK FAIR 20th -24th February

The Book Fair will take place in the Old Hall and will run from Monday 20th February until Friday 24th February and will be open from 9am-3pm each day. All classes will have two visits to the Book Fair during the week, and parents are more than welcome to visit the fair from 2.30pm -3pm each day . The Book Fair will open late on Wednesday evening (22nd February) from 7pm-9pm during which time teachers will also host a special READING CLINIC offering advice to parents on how to encourage positive reading habits, how to support reluctant or struggling readers, and will demonstrate assistive technology options to support children with Dyslexia.

Other Festival Highlights

With over 24 events including 3 visiting authors, story-telling sessions, writers’ workshops, Illustration workshops, ‘Book Tasting’ events, live performances from the Moon and Sixpence Puppet Theatre and much much more, the Ready Steady Read Festival will give ALL of our pupils the opportunity to experience the magical world of books like never before.

To see the full programme of events check out the table below, and keep checking in at www.smgnslucan.com for regular updates on all the exciting events and activities in our school over the coming weeks.
