Inspiring Author Visits Bring Stories to Life at Scoil Mhuire

As part of our Ready Steady Read Festival 2025, we were thrilled to welcome several renowned authors to Scoil Mhuire Girls’ National School. These special visits gave our students the chance to engage directly with the creative minds behind some of their favourite books, offering them a unique insight into the world of writing and illustrating.

  • On Thursday, 27th February, we had the pleasure of hosting Mary Murphy, a beloved children’s author and illustrator. Pupils from Senior Infants, 1st Class, and 3rd Class participated in engaging workshops where Mary shared her creative process. The students had the opportunity to try their hand at both writing and illustrating, sparking their imaginations and encouraging them to create their own stories.

  • On Friday, 28th February, 5th Class enjoyed an inspiring writers’ workshop with award-winning author Debbie Thomas. With her background as a former BBC journalist and author, Debbie shared her passion for storytelling, guiding the pupils through fun and interactive writing exercises. By the end of the session, our young writers were buzzing with ideas and eager to develop their own tales.

  • On Tuesday, 11th March, 6th Class welcomed author and playwright James Butler, who facilitated a creative writing workshop. Students explored the art of crafting stories, learned about character development, and even shared their own creative pieces with their peers. It was an exciting day of learning and collaboration, with plenty of laughter and creativity.

These author visits were an inspiring highlight of the Ready Steady Read Festival, giving our pupils a chance to see how stories are created from start to finish. We extend a huge thank you to Mary Murphy, Debbie Thomas, and James Butler for sharing their talents and encouraging our students to dream big in their writing!

We’re so excited to see what stories our budding authors will create next. Keep reading, writing, and imagining!
