As part of our involvement in Creative Schools, classes in our school were involved in some creative workshops inspired by the ideas generated by the pupils. At the start of our Creative Schools journey, pupils across the school brainstormed ideas for how to make our school a more creative place. Our Creative Schools Committee then analysed the responses and focused on the common theme of making our outdoor grounds brighter, more fun and interactive.
Fairy Workshops
Scoil Mhuire GNS parent, Belinda Byrne, designed an engaging workshop around class fairies and fairy doors. Belinda worked with the pupils in 1st and 2nd class to help them tap into their amazing creativity and imagination to develop who their class fairy was. Pupils did some fun movement and drawing activities and then worked with the Creative Schools Committee and Sixth Class pupils to design their own fairy doors to bring home.
One of our teachers, Ms Haraszti, then led Junior and Senior Infants through the workshops designed by Belinda. Pupils had great fun drawing, colouring and creating fairy doors using lollipop sticks and gems.
The Creative Schools Committee then designed a fairy door for each of the junior classes made from wood and colourful paint and a fairy trail has now been set up around our school grounds. See if you can spot any of the fairy doors around our flower beds the next time you visit our school!
Stone Painting Workshops
Ms Harastzi also led some creative workshops with pupils in 4th Class. Inspired by a poem all about smiling and building confidence, the pupils creatively responded to the poetry by painting stones with uplifting messages. These stones are now on display in our courtyard beside the front office. The colours and messages have really brightened up the space.
A big thank you you to Belinda Byrne and Ms Haraszti for leading these workshops.
