Our all new Ready Steady Read Festival is off to a flying start this week with our Scoil Mhuire GNS Book Fair. which opened on Monday in the Old Hall, and will run until Friday 24th February. There is great excitement around the school and our pupils are having great fun as each of our classes visit the Book Fair. The children have the opportunity to explore new book titles, to thumb through some familiar favourites, and to find their perfect read, and with some titles priced at just €1.50 there are books available for every budget.
This is a school fundraising event operated with the generous support of our Parents' Association, and in collaboration with local book supplier I.E.S. For every €100 worth of books sold at the Book Fair, our school will receive a further €50 worth of books to restock our class libraries with the latest children's titles.
The Book Fair will be open from 9.00 am - 3.00pm each day. Parents can visit the Book Fair any day between 2.30pm and 3.00pm and there will also be a late opening on Wednesday 22nd February from 7.00pm until 9.00pm. The late opening will coincide with a Reading Clinic being held in the Old Hall at the same time, where parents can drop by and ask members of our Learning Support Team for advice on encouraging good reading habits at home, how to support struggling or reluctant readers, and choosing the right books for pupils with Dyslexia, or just selecting the right book for pupils at different ages. There will also be a demonstation of some assistive technology options to support pupils with literacy difficulties.
There will be further excitement this week with the launch of our Readalong sponsored Read, and on Thursday 23rd February we will have a very special visit from award winning playwright and Children's author James Butler, who will be facilitating writer's workshops with our 6th classes.
Remember to keep checking our school website for updates on the latest festival events- it's going to be an exciting six weeks at Scoil Scoil Mhuire Girls' N.S.!
