Our reading festival ' Ready Steady Read' is back for 2024! As our biggest annual fundraiser it is a very important part of our school calendar but also a wonderful opportunity for us to focus on fostering our pupils' love of reading and helping our pupils to find the books that will allow them to read for pleasure.
Ready Steady Read 2024 runs from Monday 19th February until Friday 22nd March with the aim of making the written word accessible and enjoyable for ALL, especially our struggling readers, our pupils with Dyslexia, and those with Special Educational Needs. Throughout the festival pupils will explore varied genres and format of books from picture books and traditional tales, to novels, graphic novels, short stories, comics, and audiobooks.
The Ready Steady Read festival will consist of a series of events over a four week period. We started earlier this week with the all new Scoil Mhuire Monster Book Swap, with old favourites from last year's festival such as the Book tasting making a return this year. Our pupils will also engage with authors, poets and illustrators visiting our school to facilitate exciting classroom- based workshops.
Of course our traditional Readalong continues to be the fundraising aspect of this broader celebration. The Readalong was launched on Monday 19th February and will run until Friday 15th March with the Readalong Raffle taking place during the week leading up to the Easter holidays. Proceeds from this year's Readalong will be used to purchase new playground equipment for our school , to renew our class libraries with new titles for our pupils, and to purchase additional devices support enhanced digital learning experiences for our pupils.
